Michael P. McAuliffe is a lifelong resident of the 20th house district and Chicago’s northwest side. He lives in Chicago’s Oriole Park neighborhood with his wife, Kim, and their two young children, 6 year old Conor and 4 year old Bianca. Michael is a graduate of Holy Cross High School and alumnus of Triton College in River Grove. He’s extremely grateful to represent the people of the 20th district, which encompasses a diverse, vibrant set of communities in the city of Chicago, Park Ridge, Rosemont, Harwood Heights, Schiller Park, Des Plaines, Niles, and Norridge.
The son of a Chicago Police Officer and hospital nurse, Michael was instilled with strong family values and a deep commitment to public service. As a full-time legislator, Michael has tirelessly devoted his time and effort to ensure his constituents’ concerns are voiced in Springfield. To this end, Michael has earned an indelible reputation for being one of the hardest-working legislators and one of the most independent-minded members in Springfield. He does not hesitate to reach across the aisle on issues that are most important to his constituents.
Michael serves as the Republican spokesperson on the Illinois house committees on Health Care Licenses, Veterans’ Affairs, and Substance Abuse. He has also been appointed to the committees on Appropriations-Public Safety, Health Care Availability Access, Public Utilities, Tourism & Conventions, and Museums, Arts, & Cultural Enhancement. Michael has been instrumental in passing legislation that supports public safety, helps military veterans, improves public education, fosters economic development, reshapes the healthcare system, and assists our state’s most vulnerable citizens.
Michael was chosen by Secretary of State Jesse White to serve on the prestigious Traffic Safety Advisory Committee as a testament to Michael’s dedication to making Illinois roads safer. Michael championed legislation in 2013 that ultimately led to the creation of the Illinois Hepatitis C Task Force. He was then elected chairman of the task force by his fellow members, including health care professionals, state agency representatives, advocates, and fellow state legislators.
Organizations have honored Michael for his unwavering commitment and service to his constituents. Organizations include the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois, Illinois Crime Commission, New Horizon School for the Developmentally Disabled, Illinois Committee of Blind Vendors, Illinois Athletic Trainers Association and Illinois Park Districts.
