McAuliffe Advocates for Updated Noise Map
The House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 960 which urges the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and the FAA to adjust the O’Hare noise contour map using the new noise data being collected. Because of the O’Hare Modernization Project, it is widely known that thousands of residents outside the current map configuration are now adversely impacted by the increased jet noise.
“The current noise contour map is rooted in old noise data and therefore does not include the many residents living in communities surrounding O’Hare who now live in the new flight paths,” explained sponsor Representative Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago). “As we are collecting this new, updated data, we should take into account these new findings in order to update the noise contour map so that those that are newly affected receive some aid towards noise relief.”
HR 960 is adopted as an ongoing plan is being presented to the FAA by the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission that would spread runway usage during the night hour Fly Quiet period.
